PURPOSE
To establish standard guidelines for minimum acceptable staffing levels per alarm on Fire Boxes and for each Engine Company, Rescue Company and Truck Company responding to an emergency.
POLICY
To set minimum acceptable staffing responding to emergencies. The Kent County Chiefs’ Association has established the following guidelines, which shall be adhered to by all companies responding to, an assist call in Kent County.
GUIDELINES
Each Fire Box alarm shall a minimum staffing of 20 personnel.
Each Engine Company, Rescue Company and Truck Company shall respond with minimum staffing of three (3) people on all assist calls.
Two (2) persons shall be interior firefighters.
Rescue Companies that are alerted for air cascade only, may respond with less than 3 personnel.
In the event that you do not have three (3) people, two (2) interior firefighters at the response check, you may respond with the personnel that you have, but not less than two (2) personnel.
10 minutes into the alarm, Communications shall inform the 1st dues Officer in Charge what each apparatus is responding with and total staffing responding.
The 1st due Officer in Charge shall make the determination if he/she would like the next due company alerted to supplement the manpower.
Each apparatus responding shall give its staffing in the following manner on all emergencies.
Engine 2 responding with 6
Rescue Engine 3 responding with 6
Tanker 4 responding with 2
Rescue 5 responding with 4
Tower 6 responding with 7
Engine Tanker 7 responding with 5
Ambulance 8 responding with 3
Etc.
TRANFERS
Engine, Rescue and Truck Company transfers or combinations of these
apparatus shall have a minimum staffing of 3 personnel with two interior firefighters.
EXCEPTIONS
If you are responding in your own first due district, then minimum staffing
is up to your own S.O.G.’s.
