TANKER STANDARDS
A. All Tankers be numbered with a 1-digit number per your station number unless more than
1 Tanker in your station then use a 2-digit number for additional unit.
Example: Tanker 2-1, Tanker 3, Tanker 4-1, Tanker 5, Tanker 6-1, Tanker 7.
B. The vehicle shall consist of a motorized piece of apparatus of minimum capacity
to carry the equipment named below without being overloaded. The vehicle shall meet DOT specifications & shall not exceed the chassis manufacturer's G.V.W. It must be registered as an emergency vehicle & meet all codes of the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration or its Successors.
C. It shall be equipped as follows:
D. All loose equipment shall be mounted in brackets and fastened to the apparatus.
FIRE PUMP
Pump capacity of 1250 or more.
One (1) 4-in piped Hi-flow discharge.
a. Two (2) 4-in. piped Hi-flow discharges on 1750 GPM pumps or larger.
b. No discharge larger than 2 ½-in. on the pump operator’s side of the pump.
Pump shall be tested annually in accordance with NFPA 1910 – Standards for Inspection, Maintenance, Refurbishment, Testing, Retirement of In-Service Emergency Vehicles, and Requirements of Maring Firefighting Vehicles.
a. Test results shall be kept on file for a minimum of three (3) years for
Inspection by the Standards Committee.
WATER TANK
Water tank capacity of 2,000 gallons or more.
Illuminated Tank Level Display shall be mounted on both sides and rear of apparatus.
a. Display shall be visible from at least 100-ft. in normal daylight.
Tank Capacity shall be clearly marked on both sides and rear, and easily read, in daylight at no less than 50-ft.
Pump to Tank refill shall be capable of at least 500 GPM flow rate.
1000 GPM or large Tank to Pump flow rate.
Driver side and Officer side 1000 GPM Dump Chutes
a. Optional – Rear 1000 GPM Dump Chute.
The venting of tank capable of allowing discharge and/or dump rate of no less than 1000 GPM.
Two (2) 3-in or larger rear direct tank fills with 2 ½-in NST female or One (1) 4-in. or larger rear direct tank fills with LDH Supply Hose size Storz.
a. If equipped with single direct tank fill – One (1) LDH Supply Hose size Storz x 2 or more 2 ½-in. NST female swivel Clappered Siamese
One (1) 3000 Gallon Folding Dump Tank.
· GROUND LADDERS
All fire department ground ladders carried on the apparatus shall meet the requirements of NFPA 1930 – Standard for Fire and Emergency Services Use of Thermal Imagers, Two-way Portable RF Voice Communications Devices, Ground Ladders, and Fire Hose Appliances.
2. Optional – One (1) 10-ft. Folding Ladder
3. Optional – One (1) 14-ft. Roof Ladder.
4. Optional – One (1) 24-ft. Extension Ladder.
Stepladders and other types of multipurpose ladders meeting ANSI A14.2, Ladders – Portable Metal – Safety Requirements, or ANSI A14.5, Ladders – Portable Reinforced Plastic – Safety Requirements, with duty ratings of Type 1A or 1AA shall be permitted to be substituted for the folding ladder.
Ground ladders shall be annually tested in accordance with current NFPA 1960 – Standard for Fire Hose Connections, Spray Nozzles, Manufacture’s Design of Fire Department Ground Ladders, Fire Hose, and Powered Rescue Tools. Test results shall be given to the Standards Committee.
a. Test results shall be kept on file for a minimum of three (3) years for
Inspection by the Standards Committee.
HOSE
A minimum of 20-ft. of 6-in. hard suction hose.
A minimum of 20-ft. section of supply hose with pump intake connection on one end and local hydrant connection on the other end.
a. Same or large size section of LDH Supply Hose with proper adapters can be
used instead of supply hose.
200 ft. of 3-in hose with NST couplings.
a. Optional – Additional 3-in. or LDH Supply Hose.
If LDH hose is used a minimum of one (1) local hydrant connection to Storz adapter.
200-ft. of 1 ½-in. or 1 ¾-in. or 2-in. with NST couplings fire hose.
Optional – Four (4) Hose straps.
Fire hose shall be tested annually in accordance with current NFPA 1960 – Standard for Fire Hose Connections, Spray Nozzles, Manufacturer’s Design of Fire Department Gound Ladders, Fire Hose, and Powered Rescue Tools.
a. Test results shall be kept on file for a minimum of three (3) years for
Inspection by the Standards Committee.
Two (2) 95 GPM minimum 1 ½-in or 1 ¾-in. nozzle.
Optional – One (2) 200 GPM 2 ½-in. combination nozzle.
Two (2) 2 ½-in. NST double males.
Two (2) 2 ½-in. NST double females.
One (1) 2 ½-in female x 1 ½-in. male reducer.
One (1) 2 1/-in. Gate Valve.
If none of the pump intakes are valved, a hose appliance that is equipped with one or more gated intakes with female swivel connection(s) compatible with the supply hose used on one side and a swivel connection with pump intake threads on the other side shall be carried.
Any intake connection larger than 3-in. shall include a pressure relief device.
One (1) suction size to 2 ½-in. NST double female reducer with swivel mounted in a bracket fastened to the apparatus.
One (1) suction size to 4 ½-in. NST double female with swivel mounted in a bracket fastened to the apparatus.
One (1) suction size to 6-in. NST double female with swivel mounted in a bracket fastened to the apparatus.
One (1) suction size strainer with a minimum of 1500 GPM Flow Rate
One (1) Low-level strainer with a minimum of 1500 GPM Flow Rate.
One (1) Jet siphon.
a. Jet siphon can be incorporated into the Low-level strainer.
One (1) Floating strainer with a minimum of 1500 GPM Flow Rate.
Two (2) 3-in. Storz x 2 ½-in. Male.
Two (2) 3-in. Storz x 2 ½-in. Female.
Two (2) 4-in Storz x 5-in. Storz adapter.

SCBA
1. One (1) self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) complying with NFPA 1970 – Standard on Protective Ensembles for Structural and Proximity Firefighting, Work Apparel, Open-Circuit Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for Emergency Services, and Personal Alert Safety System for each assigned seating position, but not fewer than two.
One spare SCBA cylinder for each SCBA carried.
ROPE
Optional – 125-ft. of Utility Rope.
EMS EQUIPMENT
One (1) first aid kit.
One (1) each per crew member: Respirator and gloves as recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention for airborne pathogens.
One (1) Bio-Hazard kit, consisting of:
a. Four (4) each surgical mask.
b. Four (4) eye protection devices.
c. Four (4) protective gowns.
d. Two (2) red bio-hazard waste bags.
e. Ten (10) plastic trash bags.
f. Twenty-four (24) paper towels.
g. Twenty-four (24) clean towelettes.
h. Two (2) cans of foam alcohol hand scrub.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT
Two (2) or more wheel chocks, mounted in readily accessible location that together will hold the apparatus, when loaded to its GCWR of GCWR, on a hard surface with 20 percent grade with the transmission in neutral and the parking brake released.
One traffic vest for each riding position. Each vest shall comply with ANSI/ISEA 207, Standard for High-Visibility Public Safety Vests, and have a five-point breakaway feature that includes two at the shoulders, two at the sides, and one at the front.
a. Traffic Vest may be part of the members issued PPE, at which point Traffic
Vest would not be required to be carried on the apparatus.
Five (5) fluorescent orange traffic cones not less than 28-in. in height, each equipped with 6-in retro-reflective white band no more than 4-in. from the top of the cone, and an additional 4-in. retro-reflective white band 2-in. below the 6-in band.
Eight (8) 30-minute safety flares, Incendiary or battery powered LED type.
One (1) set, at least three (3), of emergency road triangles.
One (1) roll of fire-line tape.
Apparatus shall meet Federal DOT standards for lighting, axle loads, tire sizes, frame capacities, height, length, width, etc.
Apparatus shall have warning signals in accordance with NFPA 1900 when the apparatus was ordered.
Apparatus shall have an audible back-up alarm.
RADIO, MAPS, ETC.
One (1) two-radio to meet county standards.
One (1) portable radio for each riding position to meet county standards.
One (1) current Kent County Map Book.
One (1) Map Book for each surrounding county in which company responds to an alarm.
a. GPS or Tablet/iPad may be substituted for Map Books.
One (1) Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG)
Optional – One (1) Kent County Knox Box.
