FIRE RESCUE BOAT STANDARDS
A. All Fire Rescue Boats to be numbered with 1-digit per your station number, unless there is more than 1 Fire Rescue Boat in your station, then use a 2-digit number for each additional unit.
Examples: Fire Boat 2, Fire Boat 3-1, Fire Boat 4, Fire Boat 5-1, Fire Boat 6, Fire Boat 7-1,
Fire Boat 8.
B. Fire Rescue Boats shall consist of a power boat not exceeding the BIA rated capacity and the following specifications;
1. Minimum of 25-ft in length.
2. Minimum of 8-ft. beam.
3. Maximum of 20-in. draft.
4. Minimum of 4-hour fuel capacity.
a. Minimum of seventy (70) gallons
5. Minimum of 2,200-lb. load capacity. The load capacity shall be in excess of motor and fire pump weights.
C. The hull shall be manufactured with floatation and shall comply with all appropriate regulations of the U.S. Coast Guard and Maryland Marine Police.
D. It shall be equipped as follows;
E. All loose equipment shall be mounted in brackets and mounted in the marine unit.
· Fire Pump, Hose, Nozzles
1. 500 GPM minimum pump capacity.
2. Hard suction with strainer or thru-hull draft of appropriate size for capacity of pump.
3. Optional – One (1) Jet Siphon.
4. 200-ft of 1 ½-in or 1 ¾-in. or 2-in. fire hose
5. 25-ft of 3-in or larger supply hose.
6. Fire hose shall be tested annually in accordance with NFPA 1930 – Standard on Fire and Emergency Service Use of Thermal Imagers, Twp-Way Portable RF Voice Communication Devices, Ground Ladders and Fire Hose Appliances.
a. Test results shall be kept on file for a minimum of three (3) years for inspection by the Standards Committee.
7. Two (2) 60 GPM minimum hand line nozzles.
8. One (1) pre-piped monitor nozzle.
a. Maybe portable as long as it’s mounted and supplied by appropriate size
hose.
9. One (1) Monitor Combination Fog Nozzle
10. One (1) Montor Nozzle Stack Tips
a. Stack tip size to be determined by the Company/Department.
11. One (1) 2 ½-in x two (2) – 2 ½-in dual gate valve.
12. One (1) 1-in. Navy nozzle.
13. One (1) adjustable hydrant wrench.
14. Four (4) spanner wrenches.
15. One (1) 2 ½-in NST double male.
16. One (1) 2 ½-in. NST double female.
17. One (1) 2 ½-in. NST female X 1 ½-in. male reducer.
18. Optional – Two (2) Nomex Marine Firefighting Suits.
· Electrical Equipment
1. One (1) 1 million candlepower mounted spotlight/search light.
2. Two (2) Floodlights.
3. Two (2) Waterproof hand lights
· Miscellaneous Equipment
1. Minimum of one (1) 15-lb. ABC portable fire extinguisher
2. One (1) dual bilge pump.
3. One (1) boat hook or pike pole 8-ft long.
4. One (1) pry bar or Halligan Type Tool.
5. One (1) pair of 24-in. bolt cutters.
6. One (1) 6-lb. flat head axe.
7. One (1) Swim Platform or Boarding Ladder or Dive Platform or Transom Gate or Davit.
a. Where Davit is fitted, is to have a minimum safe working load of 500-lb.
8. Optional – One (1) Pick Head Axe.
9. Optional – One (1) 10-ft. Pike Pole
10. Optional – One (1) 20-lb. CO2 Fire Extinguisher.
· SCBA
1. One (1) self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) complying with NFPA 1981,
Standard on Open-Circuit Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus for Emergency
Services, for each assigned crew member.
a. SCBA may be carried on the support vehicle.
2. One (1) spare SCBA cylinder for each SCBA carried on the Fire Boat.
a. Spare SCBA cylinders may be carried on the support vehicle.
· Anchor, Rope, Buoys
1. One (1) Danforth type anchor with 150-ft. of 5/8-in. rope.
2. Ground Tackle for Anchor.
3. One (1) 100-ft, length of 9,000-lb. utility rope.
4. Four (4) 8-in. x 20-in Fenders.
5. One (1) Grappling Hook or Drag Bar or Drag Line
6. Four (4) 20-ft. of ½-in. Mooring/Utility Lines.
7. One (1) Ring Buoys or Rescue Tube with Line.
8. Four (4) Marker Buoys with Anchor and Line.
9. One (1) Rescue Throwing Line Bag with 75-ft. Nylon Line.
10. Optional – 100-ft. of NFPA 2500 Life Safety Rope.
· EMS Equipment
1. One (1) first aid kit.
a. Maybe carried on the support vehicle.
2. One (1) O2 kit.
a. Maybe carried on the support vehicle.
3. One (1) full backboard or rescue sled or Floating Stretcher with Harness.
· Safety Equipment
1. One Emergency tool kit.
2. One (1) flare kit.
3. Four (4) Type II adult Personal Floatation Devices.
4. Four (4) Type II child Personal Floatation Devices.
5. Four (4) Type III commercial grade Personal Floatation Devices for crew members.
6. One (1) red and amber emergency light.
7. Two (2) 6-ft. paddles/oars
· Radio, Electronic, Etc.
1. One (1) two-way radio to meet county standards.
2. One (1) portable radio to meet county standards.
a. Maybe carried on the support vehicle.
3. One marine VHF radio; 12 channels and to include channels 16 and 22.
a. Marine Radio shall be capable of receiving NOAA Weather Broadcast.
4. One (1) GPS.
5. One (1) Marine Compass.
6. One (1) depth finder/meter.
7. One (1) Waterway Navigation Chart Book.
8. One (1) electric PA/Siren or whistle.
9. One (1) Pair of Binoculars
